A lab from Linz.

Founded 2025 · Ablatic AI FlexCo · Altenberger Straße 69, 4040 Linz, Austria

Ablatic is an AI research lab in Linz, Austria. Our research line is to rethink the foundations of the transformer: how much of what a frontier model costs is actually necessary.

What we do

Capability and cost have moved together for most of the last decade. For a European lab that arithmetic is decisive, because the compute budget is not the one a US hyperscaler works with. The only way to reach frontier capability from here is to need less of it. That constraint is the reason the research exists.

We build what we research and publish what holds up. The tokenizer work is published in full; the architecture line is in training and unpublished. Talos 1 has been in preview with companies since the summer and ships in September.

All of it is trained and served inside the EU, by an EU company. How that works.

Where we came from

Ablatic AI was founded as a JKU startup at Johannes Kepler University Linz. It grew out of Julian's research as a data scientist. The company is based at the LIT Open Innovation Center on the JKU campus.
